With a population of approximately 3,500, Lower Chichester is a suburb of Philadelphia that is more like a small town community.

Stormwater Replacement Planned on Route 452 (Market Street) in Upper Chichester Township
King of Prussia, PA - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that stormwater replacement is planned on Route 452 (Market Street) in Upper Chichester Township, Delaware County, under a $14.9 million project to improve stormwater management and facilities on more than 90 state highways across the five-county Philadelphia region.
Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:
• Thursday, February 15, through Wednesday, February 21 , weekdays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Route 452 (Market Street) will be closed between Beech Street and Washington Avenue. During the closure motorists are directed to use Meetinghouse Road and Chichester Avenue. Local access will be maintained. Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because backups and delays will occur. The schedule is weather dependent.

All children must be registered by a parent/guardian with proof of address. An ID and one bill listed at the address is required.
Per the Commissioners:
No backpacks are permitted in the youth center.

Notice of Meetings for 2024
The Board of Commissioners of Lower Chichester Township, Linwood, Delaware County, PA, will hold regular monthly meetings on the third Monday of each month at 7:30 PM on the following dates during calendar year 2024: Feb. 19, March 18, Apr. 15, May 20, June 17, July 15, Aug. 19, Sept. 16, Oct. 21, Nov. 18, Dec. 16.
The Planning Commission, Zoning Hearing Board, and Civil Service Commission, Board of Health, Fire Committee, Recreation Board and Board of Commissioners Workshop meetings will meet on an as needed basis.
The public is invited to attend these meetings. If anyone needs assistance to attend these meetings, please call the Township building at 610-485-1472 at least 3 days in advance, and a reasonable attempt will be made to accommodate you.
The public may participate in the meetings by submitting written comments to the Township via US mail or by emailing comments to lowerchitwp@comcast.net on or before the date of the meeting at 4:00 PM. Any person interested in calling in for the purpose of commenting during the public comment period should call the Township at 610-485-1472 and request the call in information or visit the Township website. Township History
Lower Chichester Township was settled in 1679, and incorporated as a township in 1682. It became a first class township in 1918. The original township was named after Chichester, an ancient city in the county of Sussex, England. That city was formerly called Cissancester, that is, the city of Cissa, because it was built by Cissa, the King of the South Saxons.
